selected the courses based on a combination of quality and good value, and are a
prime benefit of your B.A.G.S. membership:
Valley CC (Warwick, RI) - Tuesday, June 23
Marlborough CC (Marlborough, MA) - Tuesday, July 7
Allendale CC (Dartmouth, MA) - Wednesday, August 5
CC of Halifax ( Halifax, MA) - Monday, August 24
Indian Pond CC (Kingston, MA) - Wednseday, September 2
Pawtucket CC ( Pawtucket, RI) - Monday, September 28
Newer Courses on our Schedule:
Valley CC (Tuesday, June 23)
One of RI's more popular private clubs - designed by
Geoffrey Cornish - recently renovated and in optimum condition. Our day will
include use of locker room facilities, golf cart, and a burger at the turn.
Dennis Pines (Saturday, May 2)
Day one of our Spring Cape Cod championship will be at one of
Cape Cod's old time favorite courses , but new for B.A.G.S.
Designed by Henry C. Mitchell and opened for play in
1966, Dennis Pines has long been noted as one of the toughest layouts on Cape
Cod. Tree lined corridors place a great premium on accuracy rather than
distance.
Highfields Golf & CC (Thursday, August 27):
Opened in 2003, this Cornish, Silva and Munegeam design
compliments a beautiful residential project. A well manicured and playable
course for all ability levels. Breathtaking views all around.
Located in Grafton, MA. (just outside of Worcester), Highfields comes highly
recommended.
Marlborough Country Club (Tuesday, July 7):
We will be joining our MA. division for their annual outing to
this fine private club. You will want to set aside the date, as we will
surely have a large field.
Indian Pond CC (Wednesday, September
2):
Added to
the MA. division schedule the past couple of seasons, this fine private club has
quickly become a favorite. Located in Kingston, MA (near Plymouth, MA),
Indian Pond Country Club, which opened in 2001, measures almost 6800 yard over
160 acres of meticulously manicured grounds. This challenging course has a
rating of 70.9 and a 131 slope. The rolling hills, tree lined fairways, and
multiple tee boxes give the golfer a unique and memorable experience.
Allendale CC (Wednesday, August 5):
Located in Dartmouth, MA, Allendale is a high quality
private club. B.A.G.S. will be back after a hiatus of about 6 years since
our last visit. Allendale is a short drive from Providence and well worth
a play.
The following courses have been added in the past several seasons:
Crystal Lakes Golf Course:
Rhode Island's newest public facility features a links style layout that wraps around Crystal Lake in Burrillville. Just opened last year, the course is very well conditioned for a new course.
Shennecosset GC:
A Donald Ross design featuring old links - style architecture, with some holes routed along the river. Shennecosset, located in Groton, CT. has been recommended by B.A.G.S. members for several years.
Newport National:
Rhode Island's #1 public access course. We are taking advantage of an early season date to offer members the opportunity to play this outstanding course at greatly reduced rates.
River Ridge CC:
Located off Rte 395 in Jewitt City, CT., River Ridge opened five years ago. Built and owned by the same people who own Elmridge, River Ridge has quickly become an area favorite. Features tree lined holes with significant elevation changes.
Hole-in-one / closest to the pin pool:
A few small changes for 2009: Any member shooting a hole-in-one in any event on the Rhode Island division schedule will win 70% of the money in the pool at the time of the ace (from 75% in prior seasons), subject to a maximum of $ 1,000. Money remaining in the pool at the end of the season will be split among the five (four in prior seasons) closest to the pin shots at the designated closest to the pin hole for the season. $1 per player per event will continue to be taken out of entry fees to fund the Hole-in-one pool. All payouts from the pool will be in the form of B.A.G.S. tournament credit vouchers.
Rhode Island Golf Association Affiliation:
B.A.G.S. - RI Division has become the first "non-real estate" club accepted for USGA - GHIN handicap service by the Rhode Island Golf Association (RIGA). For the first nine years the Rhode Island division has been in existence (1992 - 2000), we had maintained a prior affiliation with the New Hampshire Golf Association.
As of this date, our affiliation for issuing handicaps with RIGA does not allow BAGS members to enter the weekly invitationals hosted by RIGA.
Entry fee payment via Pay Pal
Members may pay
entry fees in advance by credit card through Pay Pal. This is offered as a
convenience - an additional charge of $2.50 per event will be added to offset
the Pay Pal fees. We will continue to accept only cash and checks at the
course on tournament day.
Beginning in 2009, The USGA has discontinued supplying printed handicap cards. RIGA has supplied our club with a label printer and blank labels. All members are requested to register their email addresses on GHIN.com., and to print out updated handicap records as required. The traditional handicap stickers will be printed on request.
Members with current GHIN cards can now post scores at www.ghin.com., and follow the links for on-line score posting.
Our course directory page now includes links to those courses that have websites. Just click on "go to course website" opposite the course name
For 2009 we will have several corporate sponsors that will each be providing (at a minimum) 10 prizes each to be given out as additional tournament sponsors. Our sponsor's generous prize donations will enhance the prize fund to be given out at each event.
In return, I hope that all members will consider using our Sponsor's services.
